Life In The Spirit Seminars - Fridays
The Life In The Spirit Seminar is an introduction to life lived in the power of the Holy Spirit. Through a series of talks, worship, Scripture teachings, song, and personal testimonies, participants explore faith topics, including the basic message of salvation, a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as well as the potential and the power of the Holy Spirit. Pope John Paul II described it as “a grace directed to sanctify the Church, to renew in her the taste for prayer, and to rediscover with the Holy Spirit the sense of thankfulness, of joyful praise, of confident intercession, and to be converted into a new fountain of evangelization." Although mainly intended for practising Christians desiring to make a deeper commitment to the Lord, the seminars are open to all and will cater for people from every walk of life. It is not essential that those invited must already have Church involvement. Life In The Spirit Seminars - Fridays 7:30 pm startIntroduction

God's Love: 'God is love and anyone who lives in love lives in God and God lives in Him.' (John 4:16) This first session puts forward God's unconditional love and the ongoing personal invitation to a relationship with Him. God is love and offers us the fullness of life and holiness.
Salvation: Because of humanity's fall, God needed to save us from sin, death and the evil one. God sent Jesus, His Son, to give us new life. Jesus reveals the Father's love for us. Through His life, death and resurrection Jesus is Shepherd, Healer, Lord and Saviour. The New Life: The Father offers new life to all. Jesus came into the world to bring life. Jesus surrendered to the Spirit during His baptism in the Jordan, and gives the Holy Spirit, as the source of this new life for His disciples. Receiving God's Gift: As we turn toward God and surrender our lives, then the Holy Spirit fills us with new life. Baptism in the Holy Spirit: We are each members of the Body of Christ, called to serve the Church in many ways; the Holy Spirit empowers us with charisms or gifts to carry out our role. The fruit (Galatians 5:16-26) of the Spirit will be evident in our life in new and very specific ways. Growth in the Spirit: In the parable of the sower we learn how the seed grows differently according to the type of ground it falls on . In this seminar we are taught how to cultivate the seed so as to grow in holiness and give effective service in the church.'I am the vine and you are the branches. Whoever remains in me, with me in him, bears fruit in plenty...' (John 15:5) Transformation in Christ We have several tools to help us grow in the life in the spirit, to grow in intimacy with God - prayer, Scripture, study, community, the sacraments and service. Evangelisation The Church exists to evangelise. (JPII) Overview on sharing the love of Christ... spreading the good news. Maturing in the faith, we need to study, pray, commit and serve. |
